Oahu/Big Island – Day 3 of a 8-Day Trip in Hawaii
We were headed to the Big Island in the early afternoon of Day 3, but had the morning to do some last minute Oahu activities. The sun was out and we were off to the Diamond Head Hike for the morning prior to check-out.
Day 3
Oahu/Big Island
The day started early with a 20 minute bus ride from Waikiki to the base of the Diamond Head hike. The Diamond Head hike is about a 2 hour round trip trail that starts at the crater base and gains about 560ft as you ascend to the summit. I did not find it too steep, but more of a gradual ascension. Diamond Head has been a dormant volcano for over 150,000 years and the greenery has grown in its place. The views of the crater and of Honolulu are amazing and worth the trek.

After the hike, we headed back to the hotel to check-out. I relaxed briefly at the pool with a pina colada.

Then we headed to lunch at Five Star Poke Food Truck. This was my first experience with poke in Hawaii and it did not disappoint – so good! The fish was super fresh.
After lunch, we walked along the beach at Waikiki. The water was a crystal blue and was perfect for the hot summer day.

Finally, it was time to head to the airport. Next stop Big Island! By the time we arrived and collected the car, it was late. So we stopped at Foodland (the local grocery store) on the way to the rental house to pick up groceries for dinner and called it a night.
