Kelowna to Vancouver – Day 6 of a 6-Day Trip in the Okanagan
Day 6 actually has barely any Okanagan, but focuses mainly on our 4 hour road trip back to Vancouver and an afternoon/evening in Vancouver. I was disappointed that our Okanagan trip was ending, but we were headed to Vancouver Island for the week. It was by far the smokiest day of our Okanagan trip.
Day 6
Kelowna to Vancouver

To begin our day, we started by eating the black forest pastry in the fridge. We had purchased it from Karat Chocolate and Pastry Boutique as dessert after dinner, but were too full after dinner to eat it. Solution: Have it for breakfast the next day!

After checking out of the Airbnb, we stopped by Sprout Bread to pick up breakfast pastries, tea, and coffee for the road. The chocolate croissant was flaky and delicious!
We only had time for one visit on our road trip back to Vancouver – Othello Tunnels near Hope. Othello Tunnels consists of a series of old rail ways originally built in 1914. The tracks are no longer there, but the 5 tunnels still exist. The trail is relatively flat and runs along the river. There are various other trails in this area, but we only had time to walk to and from the tunnels.

Some other possible stops between Kelowna and Vancouver are Bridal Veil Falls, the seasonal Chilliwack flower festival, and Mission’s Westminster Abbey. I’ve yet to visit the Bridal Veil Falls, but the pictures look gorgeous! The internet indicates that it is a short 30 minute hike from the parking lot. Depending on the time of year, it may be tulip or sunflower season in Chilliwack. The Chilliwack Tulip Festival is open late April to early May, while the Chilliwack Sunflower Festival is open late July to early September. I’d visited the Tulip Festival a few years ago, but have yet to visit during Sunflower season. Mission’s Westminster Abbey is a nice spot to visit – the church is beautiful with plenty of walks in the woods to explore. Here are some photos of our visits at the Chilliwack Tulip Festival and Mission’s Westminster Abbey!
As we approached Vancouver, the smoke started to clear up and there was only a very slight haze. It was nice to see blue skies again. Near Vancouver, we headed to Sushi California for lunch. This is my favourite sushi restaurant in Vancouver. Check out Canada – BC Road Trip Day 12 for food images – order the spicy salmon sashimi! Sushi California has multiple locations in the Lower Mainland. We visited the location in Surrey as it was close to the highway exit. Note: Our Okanagan trip actually ends here and we headed to Vancouver Island on the ferry. Below outlines an afternoon in Vancouver. After lunch, continue to downtown Vancouver and go for a walk along English Bay Beach. We chose to walk a portion of the Vancouver Seawall, but another option to see the Seawall is by biking the full 10km route.

Rain or Shine has a food truck on the beach. I am not sure what their schedule is, but they have amazing ice cream! I ordered a single with two flavours – strawberry guava beer sorbet and london fog. The strawberry guava beer sorbet was foamy, but delicious. London fog is my favourite. If the food truck is not there during your visit, do no fret! Rain or Shine has 3 store locations – Cambie Village, University of British Columbia, and Kitsilano.
After our afternoon walk, we headed to Guu with Garlic for dinner. Guu with Garlic specializes in Japanese Izakaya and they have multiple locations in Vancouver. Each locations boasts a different menu, so no restaurant is exactly the same. For drinks, we ordered the Ume Highball and Yuzu Mojito. For our meal, we ordered the okonomiyaki, the pan fried sliced beef with bbq sauce, and the unagi meshi with egg. Yum!
