Italy – Amalfi Coast Day 2

Cava de’ Tirreni and Vietri Sul Mare— Day 2 of a 6-Day Trip in Italy’s Amalfi Coast

Cava de’ Tirreni is a small town north of Salerno, surrounded by hills. Vietri Sul Mare is south of Cava de’ Tirreni and is less visited than the larger cities on the Amalfi Coast. It sort of makes Vietri Sul Mare a hidden gem. Despite being October, it was sunny with temperatures in the twenties (Celsius) – it felt like summer to a Vancouverite like myself!

Day 2

Cava de’ Tirreni and Vietri Sul Mare

Day 2 was a relaxing day. We were still quite jet lagged so it was nice to take it easy. We started the day with toast for breakfast and decided to go for a stroll down to the cafe in Cava de’ Tirreni. We walked by the remnants of abandoned towers and took in the views of the town.

The walk to the cafe took us about 20 minutes. The cafe, Al Caf3 Lamberti, is a cute yellow building. We ordered coffee, tea, and some pastries. Across the street is a small church called Chiesa di Santissima Annunziata and a grocery store called Mini Market Di Noviello. We stopped at the grocery store to pick up charcuterie items for lunch and headed back to the Airbnb.

After lunch, we drove 15 minutes to Vietri Sul Mare. Vietri Sul Mare borders Salerno and is also a stop for the ferry headed to Amalfi (and further). Vietri Sul Mare is also where Italian ceramics rose to fame in the 18th century. We headed straight to the beach while it was still warm out for a swim. The sea was absolutely mesmerizing and the beach quiet.

After our swim, we headed to the city centre to explore the many ceramics stores, take in the views and visit the church (Chiessa Parrocchiale di San Giovanni).

And finally, what better way to end our visit to Vietri Sul Mare than gelato! We visited Dolcefreddo for gelato and espresso.

For dinner, we headed back to the Airbnb (more pasta and wine!)
