Ravello — Day 6 of a 6-Day Trip in Italy’s Amalfi Coast
For our final day on the Amalfi Coast, we headed to Ravello. Ravello is a town perched on the hillside. There aren’t any beaches, but there are amazing views and gardens. Its about a 30 minute bus ride from Amalfi. Ravello is also home to two well-known villas – Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo. Both have gorgeous views and well-manicured gardens.
Day 6
Ravello
After breakfast at home, we drove to Vietri Sul Mare and took the bus to Amalfi. From Amalfi, we transferred to the bus that took us to Ravello. The entire trip took us about an hour and a half. The entire drive is windy and narrow. The bus drivers in Italy are either very good or very daring. The bus dropped us off right outside the city centre and as soon as we exited the bus, we were awarded with a beautiful view.

We headed to the city centre, where there is a church (Duomo di Amalfi), restaurants and shops. There is also the entrance to Villa Rufolo. The Villa is open to the public, with a beautiful garden. We decided not to visit and instead wandered the city. We stopped at a small shop to purchase tickets for the bus ride home, picked up sandwiches, and found a small garden to enjoy the view.

After lunch, we headed to Villa Cimbrone. Villa Cimbrone was built in the 11th century. Today, it is a prestigious hotel and popular event venue, especially for weddings. A lot of people, like us, visit for the gardens. At Villa Cimbrone is the Terrazza dell’Infinito – a stunning terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. We got lost on the way to Villa Cimbrone and ended up walking more than we had to (downhill, then back uphill). It was worth it though because of the amazing countryside scenery.

Once we were at Villa Cimbrone, I realized that there was a dog that had been trailing behind me. It disappeared shortly after! The first spot we visited was the cloister, then strolled around the gardens.

And of course – Terrazza dell’Infinito!

Next, we headed back to the Duomo plaza, stopped for gelato and a lemon drink, then caught the bus back to Amalfi. We decided to ferry from Amalfi to Vietri Sul Mare instead of taking the bus. While we waited for the ferry to arrive, we stopped for a snack at Cuoppo d’Amalfi. The seafood cone was filled to the brim with fried octopus tentacles, squid, and shrimp. It was very delicious, but I did feel like it was lacking in citrus and a dipping sauce would have been nice as well.

We then headed back to the Airbnb for dinner and rest.
